Bundle sheath cells are large

Rich in chloroplasts & other organelles

Leaf section of amaranth (Amaranthus retroflexus), a C4 plant exhibiting Kranz (wreath) anatomy. Palisade mesophyll cells are radially oriented around the bundle sheath cells surrounding the veins. Parenchymatous bundle sheath cells are large and rich in organelles, especially chloroplasts.

The bundle sheath is an intensely green tissue, often in contrast to bundle sheath of C3 plants where the bundle sheath cells appear less dense. These bundle sheath cells are densely cytoplasmic and filled with chloroplasts.

There are stomata on both leaf surfaces (identify them). Note two large cells in the center of the leaf that may contain druses. Although amaranth is a mesophytic plant, C4 plants are often xerophytes.
